I didn't know what I was missing, WOWGot the Victory-35 with cover and Ultimate Starter pack delivered today. Assembly took some time and careful attention to instructions and about 1 1/2 hours. Could be made easier if the parts were labeled with their part numbers (they are not). A helpful tip to anyone assembling this grill: it was packed well with a lot of Styrofoam blocks that left a mess of Styrofoam crumbs inside the cooker, but these were easily blown clean using a leaf blower before the final parts were placed inside. The ultimate starter pack does come with three 20 lb bags of pellets, so that's a great value, especially since the starter pack also includes the cover. Total cooking area is 1015 sq inches, so it's comparable in size and features to the Pit Boss Austin XL. The heat-up time is amazingly short as it went from cold to 500 F to burn it out in less than 10 minutes. Our first cook was chicken thighs with a dry rub that came out absolutely delicious. I cooked them at 250 for 45 minutes and then 350 for 20 more. Spread around the grill, I tested temperature with an instant read thermometer when one of the the meat probes that came with the grill read 170, and got readings from 168 to 178 on 6 different pieces. That's pretty good heating uniformity since not all thighs were identical size. Every piece was smoked to slightly pink perfection and very juicy. This really beats cooking with charcoal or gas, and is so much more versatile. It's heavy and the parts fit accurately, so I hope it will last many years for us. | Was This Helpful? | |
